{"id":3210,"date":"2016-10-18T17:06:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-18T17:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/liquid.tech\/?post_type=news&#038;p=3210"},"modified":"2024-08-01T08:42:12","modified_gmt":"2024-08-01T08:42:12","slug":"bpc_and_liquid_intelligent_technologies_enter_into_joint_venture","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/liquid.tech\/about-us\/news\/bpc_and_liquid_intelligent_technologies_enter_into_joint_venture\/","title":{"rendered":"BPC and Liquid Intelligent Technologies enter into joint venture"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/liquid.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/botswana-deal.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3206\" width=\"228\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/liquid.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/botswana-deal.png 500w, https:\/\/liquid.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/botswana-deal-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 228px) 100vw, 228px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) and Liquid Intelligent Technologies have agreed to enter into a joint venture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement will see BPC lease excess optical fibres from its network to Liquid Intelligent Technologies, creating a new telecoms network provider with extensive reach across Botswana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement was signed by Jacob Raleru, CEO at BPC, and Nic Rudnick, CEO at Liquid Intelligent Technologies, at a ceremony held in Gaborone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The joint venture, which will operate under the name Liquid Intelligent Technologies Botswana, will enable BPC to make more effective use of its existing assets, while allowing Liquid Intelligent Technologies to better serve the network needs of its wholesale and enterprise customers in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BPC owns and operates an optical fibre cable network that is embedded on some of its high voltage transmission lines. This fibre network will be commercialised for the first time in order to provide networks services across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BPC Board of Directors approved the commercialisation of its network in March 2016, and following a period of competitive bidding, Liquid Intelligent Technologies was selected as the preferred partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of BPC\u2019s infrastructure will be granted to Liquid Intelligent Technologies Botswana under an Indefeasible Right of Use Agreement (IRUA). Rather than taking any rental payments, the capital value of the IRUA will be used to purchase BPC\u2019s equity stake, which is 42.5%.
